Service Learning at Home and Abroad

Innovative Learning Institute (ILI) is dedicated to fostering a culture of community service, both locally and globally. At home, our commitment to service is manifested through various initiatives aimed at supporting our neighbors and addressing pressing social issues. We collaborate with local soup kitchens to provide meals for the homeless and those in need, recognizing the importance of ensuring food security within our community. Additionally, ILI places a strong emphasis on environmental leadership, engaging in projects that promote sustainability and conservation efforts. From organizing neighborhood clean-up events to advocating for renewable energy sources, we strive to make a positive impact on our local environment. Moreover, ILI actively addresses food insecurity by partnering with organizations to distribute nutritious meals. Through these efforts, we aim to uplift and empower our community members, fostering a sense of belonging and support. We also partner with local organizations abroad in supporting the educational needs of children who live in extreme poverty with a Martin Luther King service learning trip to the Dominican Republic.

Innovative Learning Institute (ILI) is dedicated to supporting our neighbors abroad through ethical service learning experiences in the Dominican Republic. Our international initiatives are guided by principles of cultural sensitivity, sustainability, and mutual respect. We only engage in programs that focus on locally-defined sustainability goals and pay fair trade wages. Partnering with local organizations and communities, ILI engages in a variety of service projects aimed at addressing key challenges faced by Dominican Republic residents. These projects range from educational support and infrastructure development to healthcare initiatives and environmental conservation efforts. ILI emphasizes the importance of ethical service learning, ensuring that our students engage in meaningful, reciprocal partnerships that prioritize the needs and perspectives of the local community. By immersing ourselves in the rich culture and traditions of the Dominican Republic, we aim to foster cross-cultural understanding and promote global citizenship. Through these experiences, ILI seeks to empower both our students and our international partners to create positive change and build a more just and equitable world.
